The Food Project is the flagship program of UEmpower of Maryland, built to confront two urgent challenges in Southwest Baltimore:
food insecurity and youth unemployment.

In the heart of 21223 — where high unemployment, low high school completion rates, and barriers such as crime and substance use continue to impact families — The Food Project serves as both a safety net and a launchpad for opportunity.

We employ and train at-risk youth to prepare and distribute fresh, nutritious meals and essential resources to the community. Through hands-on workforce development, mentorship, and leadership opportunities, young people gain job skills, confidence, and purpose — breaking cycles of poverty while becoming part of the solution.

At the same time, we provide consistent access to meals, emergency food support, and connections to critical wraparound services for individuals and families in need.

The result is more than food.
It is empowerment.
It is stability.

It is a pathway forward — built by the community, for the community.
